The Overhill Communities is named for the Cherokee Indians Over-the-hill (mountain) country.  There are rich traditions in the Overhill heritage. The Great Smoky Mountains and the national and state parks are famous for their untarnished beauty. Outdoor activities include hiking, camping, white water activity, fishing and mountain biking to name a few.

The Overhill Communities are in Monroe County with a population of 35,000 people. The Knoxville area which is less than an hour away has a population of 300,000. There are good medical facilities, shopping, and schools within Monroe County plus a growing manufacturing industry.

The cost of living is low with no state income tax and very reasonable real estate and personal property tax. The annual property tax on a $150,000 home in Monroe County is about $700.00. Utilities are low compared to almost any place in the U.S..

Outdoor living is a year round activity in east Tennessee. The summer are long with plenty of hiking, fishing, boating in the Smoky Mountains, lakes, rivers and creeks.  Fall is a legendary time in the Tennessee mountains with millions of acres of bright foliage. Fall is also a great time for outdoor activities with warm days and cool nights. The winters are short and mild with an occasional snow and most winter days outdoor activities are comfortable. Spring brings the azaleas, dogwood and the beauty of new life.
